General questions

What is myma?

myma is a community driven art organization. We are building a free social and professional platform for artists, institutions and enthusiasts to connect, discover and share art, and host and promote their opportunities and programming.
We also host ongoing programs to support and amplify artists on the platform. Our programming includes our monthly artist grant series, MyMA Exhibitions (upcoming), and editorial content such as artist interviews and studio visit videos.

Who can join the platform?

Visual artists working in any media and art organizations are encouraged to join the platform.

What public information do I share on my artist profile?

myma is a platform for artists introduce works with the contemporary art community. Please only upload your original works. Artists share information that is generally accessible on an artist website, including:

  • A short artist biography
  • Your art portfolio
  • Your CV/ resume (optional)
  • Profile picture (optional)
  • Links to your website and social media accounts (optional)

Who can view my artist profile?

Artist profiles are currently only accessible to our editorial staff or the jury panels of the programs we host on the platform and to which you have applied. Your profile is visible to website visitors if you are selected for one of our programs or editorial features. We are working to soon allow artists in the community to introduce their works to the the broader network of artists, art professionals, and art organizations on myma.

What does it mean to have a profile on myma and upload my works? What are my artist rights on myma?

All artists on myma retain all and full ownership of their works and images of their works on myma. myma does not claim any ownership or rights to the works at all. myma is not a commercial platform nor a gallery and does not represent the artists in the community, or claim any commercial relationship with the artists. I don’t want my profile to be visible. What can I do?

We understand that some artists in the community may prefer not to showcase their works on myma but do want to have a profile on myma to discover and apply to artist opportunities. If you’d prefer your profile to be private, please head to the ‘Profile’ tab and choose ‘Manage account.’ From there, choose ‘Change account privacy’ and select the toggle ‘Make account private.’ Private accounts will not have any works shared with the wider community but otherwise, all features on myma are completely available!

Is MyMA free?

Yes. Creating artist profiles and applying to opportunities is completely free of charge. We will not charge artists for participating in myma’s community and using myma features including the opportunity board.

How does MyMA make money?

myma is currently not monetized. While joining the community and applying to opportunities will always remain free for artists, we may introduce additional paid features for artists and institutions to help us sustain and grow myma. Importantly, we will never monetize artist data by selling or sharing it with any third-party.

Artist profiles

Why should I create an artist profile?

We encourage visual artists to create their myma profile to apply for artist opportunities hosted on the platform for free and be considered for our editorial and social media features. While we currently only host our own artist opportunities, we soon allow other institutions to host and manage their opportunities on MyMA as well.

How do I create a profile?

You can create your profile by simply clicking on the sign up button on the top right corner of the screen and follow the instructions.

Who can view my artist profile?

Artist profiles are currently accessible to our editorial staff, jury panels of the programs we host on the platform, and our website visitors (In the case you are selected for one of our programs or editorial features). We are working to soon allow everyone to use myma to discover art and connect with artists and the broader contemporary art community.

How do I change my password?

On phone/tablet
  1. Go to the menu on the top right corner of the screen
  2. Tap on Profile > Manage account > Change password

On laptop/desktop
  1. Click on your profile picture on the top right corner of the screen
  2. Click Manage account > change password

What if I forgot my password?

If you forgot your password, please use the Forgot password button on the sign in page to reset your password. You will then receive an email with a link that allows you to set a new password.

How do I delete my profile?

You can delete your profile by going to Manage account tab in the profile menu.

What steps do I need to take to complete my profile?

In order to have a complete profile and be eligible to apply to opportunities please provide:
  1. A profile picture
  2. A short artist bio/statement (minimum of 50 words)
  3. Your up to date CV/resume
  4. A minimum of 5 artworks

How do I add artworks?

To add artworks, please go to your profile page and tap/click on the Add artwork button

Can I add videos?

Unfortunately, we currently do not accept video submissions. However, we understand the importance of incorporating video content and are actively working towards allowing video submissions in the near future. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this process, and we look forward to receiving your video submission when this option becomes available.

How do I delete or replace the image of an artwork?

To delete or replace the image of an artwork, please use the “…” icon on the bottom right of the artwork to view delete and replace options.

How do I edit my artist statement?

To edit your artist statement, navigate to your profile page and tap/click on “edit profile” button.

How do I replace my CV?

To replace your CV:
  1. Navigate to your profile and click/tap on “Edit profile” button.
  2. Scroll down to CV section and press “replace CV”

Opportunities

What is myma Artist grant?

myma Artist Grant is a monthly juried grant that provides an unrestricted $500 award to one artist each month. In addition to the award, we publish a written or video profile of the grant winner on our website and social channels.
In addition to the winner, our jury panel recognizes 5 artists as honorable mentions each month. The profiles of the honorable mentions will be published on our website and social channels.
No application fee is required to apply to the grant series, so we encourage artists working in any media to apply every month as our independent jury panel changes every month.

How do I get considered for myma editorial and social media features?

All artists with complete profiles are considered for our editorial and social media features. Our editorial staff is also informed by our jurors’ applicant shortlist from our grant series.

What is the selection process?

Our team will thoroughly consider every application and crate a shortlist of 150 applicants. The shortlist is then provided to our independent jurors who then select the grant recipient and honorable mentions.
We select grant recipients and honorable mentions solely based on artistic merit, characterized by a critical involvement with and unique contributions to the artist’s preferred medium. Our jurors will consider artwork of any medium as well as any accompanying artist statements or additional information available on your artist profile.

Is there an application fee?

To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, all myma opportunities are free.

What artists are eligible?

(1) Artists must be at least 18 years of age;
(2) Artists must not be a myma employee, contractor, or their relative;
(3) have a complete MyMA artist profile with a minimum of 5 artworks, an up to date CV, and an artist statement.
Eligible artists will be evaluated with equal consideration regardless of their age, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, ancestry, disability, veteran status, or country of origin. There are no restrictions or biases towards any of these factors during the evaluation process.
Please note that residents of the following countries or regions are not eligible for the MyMA Artist Grant due to U.S banking restrictions.

Can artist collectives apply?

No, the artist grant is awarded to individual artists only.

What are the judging criteria?

The selection of the awardee and finalists will be based on their artistic excellence, which is characterized by displaying a significant impact on their selected medium and a thoughtful approach to their work. Any form of artwork will be taken into account, and all the details provided by the artist, including their artwork, artist statement, and other information available on their artist profile, may be assessed during the selection process.

Which of my artworks will be considered in the selection process?

Our jurors are instructed to consider your 5 most recent uploads for the selection process.

Can I update my profile or add new work during the selection period?

Yes, you can update your artist profile at any time.

I was shortlisted for the grant in a previous cycle, can I apply again?

Yes! We encourage artists including previously recognized artists to apply every month as our independent jury panel changes every month.
